WeeDuplicateDetective main data structure / part 1


Verion 1.0 is progressing well, it should be released next week. I fixed quite a few GUI issues and made two major changes. This post is about the first of them.

I did build WeeDuplicateDetective (I will use the short form “WDD” from now on) around a poorly thought out data structure. Continue reading

Why use WeeDuplicateDetective?

Well, because

  1. It’s 100% free
  2. it’s easy to use
    1. All you need is in one screen
    2. There’s an integrated tutorial
    3. the user interface is organized like reading a book page: left to right and top to bottom
  3. It doesn’t install any ads, malware or toolbars
  4. It presents the collected information efficiently
    1. Duplicates are shown as sub items of the first found occurence
  5. It gives you a lot of control over what you can do with the duplicates
    1. Combine many criteria defining what files should be considered as duplicates
    2. Search the list of duplicates to find specific items
    3. Mark the files that you want to clean up with a variety of selection schemes. Use the context menu for more options, applying to a specific item in the list.
    4. Sort the found duplicates in different ways, to get a better view of what you can / should clean
    5. Remove some specific items from the list of duplicates to get a better overview
    6. Some file types can even be previewed
      1. pictures: JPG, GIF, TIFF, BMP and PNG
      2. audio and video: everything Windows Media Player can play (MP3, WMA, MPG, AVI, MP4, etc.)
    7. Decide yourself how to clean the duplicates you want to be cleaned
  6. It’s nice to look at
  7. It’s nonetheless still fast

A bit of information:

  • This software helps you find and handle (delete, send to the recycle bin or move to a folder) duplicates of files. In other words, if you have unneeded copies of files, WDD will find them and will help you clean them. Continue reading
